The American Mountain Guide’s Association (AMGA) is the premier source for training, credentials, and services for professional mountain guides and climbing instructors in the United States. Their mission is to inspire and support a culture of American mountain craft. The SPI is the only internationally recognized single pitch climbing instructor certification program in the United States.
North Bend Climbing Guides operates out of North Bend State Park, located in Ritchie County WV. North Bend offers a beautiful setting for climbing, with its rock walls rising above the North Fork of the Hughes River.
John Starkweather began climbing in 2006 and has been pursuing the sport for the past 10 years. Having climbed in many different areas; including France, Italy, Switzerland, Nepal, Utah and New Hampshire, John loves the rock that can be found in West Virginia and believes it to be as good as any found around the world. Sharing the sport of rock climbing and seeing it grow in the community are among some of the goals that John has. Owner and operator of North Bend Climbing Guides, John is a Single Pitch Instructor, emergency medical technician, CPR certified and associated with the American Mountain Guide Association. John is looking forward to many years ahead at North Bend Climbing Guides and bringing the sport of climbing to the Mid-Ohio Valley.
